Hays-Caldwell Women's Center began Roxanne's House in 1978. A children's advocacy center named after an enthusiastic member who pushed to change the lives of those abused.
"Roxanne’s House provides children whose cases have been shared from law enforcement with videorecorded forensic interviews admissible in a court of law, plus counseling and advocacy for the extent of the court case," said Director of Development and Community Partnerships Charles Vestal. "It brings together all players in the protection of children including law enforcement, district attorneys, CASA, HCWC and other partners."

"Roxanne's house is a place not only for sexual and physically abused children but also children who have witnessed a crime," said Volunteer Coordinator Kate Shaw.
Not only does the program touch the lives of the children involved but also provides a life changing experience for interns. Hays-Caldwell Women's Center reaches out to students in all different areas to get involved in their mission to create a safe environment for children and provide a place to rebuild their lives.
"A representative from Hays-Caldwell Women's Center came and talked to one of my social work classes about what she did at Roxanne's House and I was really intrigued and decided that was something I wanted to be a part of," said Texas State University Psychology major Tally Jorn. "Most Friday's I watch forensic interviews of the children and write summaries for the court."
Interns are involved first hand listening to these children cry out for help. An internship opens new opportunities for students wanting to go into social work.
"It has given me a lot of insight to different populations and types of people" said Jorn. " I have a huge heart for these children and appreciate what they do at Roxanne's house, it is really fulfilling to help in any way."
Jorn expressed the need for interns and volunteers at both Roxanne's House and the Women's Center. To get involved or become an intern visit http://hcwc.org/internships.htm.
